Parenting
with Love and Limits® Overview: Helping Parents, Tough Teens, and
Professionals Find Solutions
Parenting
with Love and Limits® (PLL), founded by Dr. Scott
Sells, serves two major functions. The first is to provide parents
and professionals with a step-by-step approach (rather than abstract
theory) that can easily be applied. Dr. Sells’ six years of
intensive research resulted in a book for parents entitled, Parenting
Your Out-of-Control Teenager, as well as the therapeutic system of care
now known as Parenting with Love and Limits® (PLL).
PLL now partners with treatment professionals all over the world to make this
proven treatment method available to parents and their teens. (To find a PLL-Certified

PLL Philosophy
We at PLL believe that the power to parent has been stripped away from
parents. Instead of empowering parents to take charge of their teen's
problem, teens are often overmedicated in record numbers or placed
in boot camps, hospitals, or institutions. PLL firmly believes that
parents can heal themselves and their teenagers when given the right
playbook and set of tools. The US Census Bureau estimates that 11
million teenagers go beyond normal adolescent rebellion to engage
in out-of-control or extreme behavior. To stop this epidemic, PLL
presents a "love and limits" approach that is unlike anything else
currently available.
PLL's
VISION is to help professionals and parents reduce or eliminate
severe behavior problems in teenagers and children through a step-by-step
roadmap and the restoration of both love and limits. Our
MISSION is to deliver innovative tools to professionals and parents
that facilitate both the prevention and treatment of out-of-control teenagers and
children through the use of the research-based PLL model.
"Educational and inspirational. I am grateful for the experience.
I finally understand what makes my teen tick and why counseling
with Nick has failed all these years." - Janet Tomasscheski,
Reno, NV., June 20, 2001
"I came as a parent, professional, and a student. Rarely has
a workshop been so useful to all the hats I wear." - Dr. Cynthia
Wilburn, Phoenix, Arizona, March 17, 2001
Help
For Parents
PLL is committed to helping parents obtain the step-by-step
tools they need to stop parent abuse and acts of teen terrorism
that they may be experiencing. PLL does this by first showing parents
the concrete steps necessary to build an ironclad contract to stop
the teen's extreme behaviors of disrespect, ditching school, violence,
alcohol or drug use, sexual promiscuity, or threats of suicide.
PLL will then show parents how to restore lost nurturance between
them and their teen and how misbehavior is as much connected to
a lack of structure as it is to a lack of love. PLL offers a Parent
Survival Kit, books,
and audio compact disks
to accomplish these goals.
Help
For Professionals
Severe behavioral
problems in adolescents currently comprise one-third to one-half
of all adolescent clinic referrals. Moreover, the prevalence of
these behavioral problems is increasing dramatically; creating a
need for services that are not available. To address these issues,
PLL partners with various agencies through our "Center of Excellence" program to
bring PLL to communities around the world. To find where our Centers of Excellence
are located, go to our website for professionals at www.gopll.com.
